Our organisation name is
"Woden Valley Gymnastics Club"

KinderGym is a whole-child development program for children 9 months - 5 years old which provides opportunities for non-competitive play, challenges, and exploration with the guidance of trained and encouraging coaches.

We teach gymnastics skills and fundamental movement patterns in a colourful, exciting environment full of storytelling elements, interactive activities, and music, to help children achieve the outcomes of:

  • Physical development (by building fundamental movement patterns, gymnastics skills, and fine motor skills).

  • Physical literacy (which is the motivation, competence, knowledge and understanding to value and actively continue engaging in physical activities for life).

  • Building confidence and self-esteem (through mastering skills and overcoming challenges)

  • Social skills and readiness for school (through observing peers, interacting with peers and coaches, and skills such as waiting for one’s turn).

  • Cognitive, emotional and linguistic growth (through music, dance, and fortnightly educational themes. Gymnastics also helps with cognitive skills like sequencing, compartmentalisation, and the ability to understand order processes).

  • Having fun and building positive associations with sport for life (by creating a foundation of positive movement experiences to influence a child’s outlook on physical activity.

  • Bonding with families and integrating with the wider community (Children learn successfully through the observation of others and the positive reinforcement from the adults around them. KinderGym is also a great way for families to bond in different ways, and for children to understand more about others and the community they live in).

Throughout each term, children enjoy access to all apparatus areas, with fortnightly changing educational themes. Weekly sessions include gymnastics warm-ups, free play, and circuits.

Regular KinderGym classes run in terms, coinciding with the ACT school terms. See the Holiday Program section for more information on KinderGym classes that run during the school holidays.

Gymnastics Australia and Woden Valley Gymnastics Club are partnered with the Sports Australia Physical Literacy Framework. See more about physical literacy below:

What is Physical Literacy?

Physical literacy provides:

What each Physical Literacy Domain area means:

  • Physical – Movement skills that allow a person to move (on land, water, snow or ice) from one place to another

  • Psychological – Positive emotions and experiences derived from movement and physical activity

  • Social – Moral principles that govern a person’s behaviour, relating to fairness and justice, inclusion, equity, integrity and respect.

  • Cognitive – Factual knowledge a person can understand and convey; often important in recognition, recall and planning
